Overview#

The Geofencing domain provides geographic boundary management for emergency alerts, incident response, and location-based notifications. It supports multiple geofence types, device tracking, KML import/export, population estimation, auto-expanding boundaries, and real-time geofence matching when devices enter or exit defined areas.

Key Features#

  • Multiple geofence types (evacuation, shelter-in-place, search area, restricted, alert zone, critical zone, surveillance, hazard, custom)
  • Geofence lifecycle management (active, pending, expired, cancelled, draft)
  • GeoJSON polygon/multipolygon support with spatial indexing for fast queries
  • Auto-expansion over time with configurable rate and maximum limits for modeling spreading hazards
  • Device location recording with automatic entry/exit/dwell detection and notification triggers
  • KML import/export for bulk boundary management and external sharing
  • Population estimation and address counting within boundaries
  • Version history tracking for all boundary changes
  • Buffer zone generation from existing geofences
  • Geofence overlap analysis with percentage calculations

Use Cases#

  • Creating and managing evacuation zones during natural disasters with auto-expanding boundaries
  • Recording device locations to detect when personnel enter or exit active geofence zones
  • Importing search area grids from KML for search-and-rescue operations
  • Estimating affected population within geofence boundaries for resource planning

Integration#

The Geofencing domain integrates with Alert Campaign for notification targeting, Incident for emergency response, Location for POLE profiles, DOC Location for duty-of-care tracking, and Map for visualization.
